IIMA and VIDES Participation in the 62nd Session of the Human Rights Council
The 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council took place from 15 June to 8 July 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. This session addressed not only a number of pressing issues that affect specific vulnerable groups — including women and girls — but also global challenges such as climate change.
At this session, IIMA and VIDES delivered several statements:
- During the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the right to education, ,we commented on the latest report of Ms. Farida Shaheed, stressing the need to invest in inclusive and equitable education systems.
- During the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, its causes and consequences, Ms. Reem Alsalem, we called for stronger prevention measures.
- During the second panel of the Annual full-day discussion on the human rights of women, we called for the removal of barriers preventing women from accessing education, decent work, and leadership opportunities.
- During the Biennial thematic panel discussion on technical cooperation and capacity-building, which this year focused on physical and mental health, we stressed the urgent need to strengthen mental health care, particularly for young people.
All statements were prepared and delivered by young representatives in line with IIMA and VIDES engagement to promote youth empowerment and recognize the increasingly important role that youth must play in multilateral human rights processes.
All texts and videos of the oral statements are available on the IIMA website.
